Day Three – JoySail regatta in full swing

Day Three of Ibiza JoySail 2026 brings competition and camaraderie.

The start line was to the west of Ibiza, off Cap des Falco. ATALANTE, sailing in the World Cruising Class, was first to set off, followed by the remainder of the fleet in a staggered start sequence. The yachts passed Es Codolar beach and Punta Yondal, and headed downwind towards Es Vedra where two marks split the fleet – the performance class rounded to port whilst the other classes turned to starboard. The fleet united again as they headed towards the finish.

“We had a manic start today but we found our rhythm – we chased the fleet up and we finished in second. Big winds and flat waters, today was perfect conditions for us. Pressure’s on for tomorrow!” – Captain Matt Brushwood, POINT COUNTER POINT

Though POINT COUNTER POINT crossed the line first in class today, a penalty applied for crossing the start line early put them behind ROSE.

In contrast to yesterday, today’s course brought more for the tacticians to consider with greater scope for strategy both upwind and downwind.

Alicia Ageno, sailing on LIBERTY, highlighted the approachability of the Race Committee members: “They are very accessible. They listen to and share information with participants before and after the races and are happy to chat with you – something that is greatly appreciated.”

Carles Rodríguez, tactician for OCHO explained: “It’s our first time in Ibiza, and we still have a lot to learn; we’re taking it step by step. We haven’t been racing this boat for very long, but we want to step things up next year.” He added that “the owner is very happy and impressed by the caliber of the fleet at Ibiza JoySail.”

Class wins again went to MOAT, WINWIN, CERVO, and POINT COUNTER POINT. In the World Cruising class NOSTROMO nipped by AURELIUS to claim the finish line, leaving class winner all to play for tomorrow. With one more day of racing still to go, thoughts turn to who will win the Owner Driver trophy, Perpetual trophy, and who will take the title overall.
