Ibiza JoySail Under Starter’s Orders Thursday

Midday Thursday and the start gun will sound on the Bay of Palma to send the inaugural Ibiza JoySail fleet on its way on a 68 nautical miles opening offshore race to Ibiza.

Within this beautiful opening passage there will be the chance for each of the competing yachts to set, or challenge for, a new collection of perpetual awards for the 48 miles speed record between Mallorca’s Punta Cala Figuera light and the lighthouse on the southern end of Ibiza’s Tagomago Island.

This ‘race within the race’ is designed to add a little extra spice to what is designed to be an enjoyable, fun passage making the most of what promises to be gentle weather and warm autumn sunshine for late season crews, owners, friends and families to share a new experience together.

The arrival at Marina Ibiza will be rewarded with sundowners before an evening programme.

Friday, Saturday and Sunday will then see a schedule of coastal races starting at 1300hrs local time each day making the most of the local winds and taking in the best of the Ibiza and Formentera coastlines.

Among the entries set to race are the newly named, recently purchased Moat, formerly the Swan 115 Highland Fling 15, the Swan 115 Shamanna, the Swan 100s Red Sky, the Dubois designed YD 120 Bliss and Dark Horse, the Swan 80.

Ibiza JoySail is a “SYRA Sanctioned Regatta”.

The SuperYacht Racing Association (SYRA) is a non-profit organisation open to any superyacht owner who participate in regattas or any other superyacht event, with the mission to determine a timely way forward to educate, advise, and inform boat captains and yacht owners regarding onboard safety.

Safe sailing and fair racing are meaningful challenges to the organisers and race committees who manage superyacht regattas. The SYRA was established to address these essential elements and maximize the enjoyment of any participating or prospective superyacht owner.

The ORC rating system does not compare the characteristics of one boat to another; it measures how a racing crew can reach their boat’s theoretical performance potential.
Thanks to the VPP, ORC can calculate the theoretical speeds that a boat should achieve on a given race course in the given conditions.

ORC supports Ibiza JoySail with two representatives in the regatta who assisted participants with any doubt or claim regarding ratings.
